The easiest, and most important, way you can support our team is by praying for us and the community we will be serving! If you would like to support in more tangible ways, use one of the links below to donate toward our trip in general (tax deductible) or a specific missionary (not tax deductible), or alternatively, to donate supplies we can take with us. If you purchase supplies, please deliver them to the church at 2551 Dixie Hwy, Lakeside Park, KY

Thank you, and God Bless!

Dominican Republic Mission

Immanuel families partner with GO Ministries in sharing, serving, and sending missionaries to the Dominican Republic. GO Ministries utilizes a three-pronged approach to reaching people for Jesus Christ; the legs of their ministry include: Church Planting, Sports, and Medical missions on the island.

Many of our mission teams have participated in supporting new GO Church Plants by providing programing and ministry resources for local pastors. This can include VBS’s, prayer walks, community development, worship, and small-scale construction. GO Ministries has a goal of planting 1,000 churches by the year 2030 (currently 300+).

GO Sports is the life blood of many Dominican communities as a means to reach children for Jesus Christ. GO offers several different team options for children and youth, including: Baseball, Basketball, Volleyball, and Soccer. With the recent improvements to their LDC (Leader Development Complex), GO has expanded their footprint on the island’s sports ministry while deepening discipleship opportunities for families.

GO Medical has served as an amazing blessing to many urban and rural communities on the island. Immanuel was integral in the early stages of GO’s new three-story medical facility. Many medical teams now provide traveling health clinics (medical and dental), installation of freshwater filtration systems, and standard non-prescription medications (aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen, and basic antibiotics).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is covered in the cost?

There are a lot of costs associated with trips like this. The $2200 includes GO Ministry Registration, lodging, local transportation, international travel, work materials, meals, and some special opportunities provided on the island.

  • Why is a $750 deposit necessary?

Immanuel’s Finance Team has requested that as much of the estimated airfare as possible be collected in advance before tickets are purchases. This ensures good financial stewardship and protects both the church and the participants from unexpected risks. It also adds weight to the commitment to join the mission team.

  • Do I have to follow the suggested payment schedule?

No, but we do require that final payments are made before our final bill is due. So final payments will be required by our final team training meeting – April 26th.

  • How do I make payments?

At this time, there are two methods for making payments:

    1. Pay by check / cash to the church office. Clearly indicate that the payment is for the Dominican Republic Mission Trip.

    2. Pay online through our payment portal by going to immanuel-nky.org/give and selecting “Payment” at the top of the page.

  • How do those who want to donate to my trip do so?

At this time, there are a few methods for giving directly through the church:

    1. Pay by check / cash to the church office. Clearly indicate that the payment is for the Dominican Republic Mission Trip.

    • Note: If someone wants to give directly toward your balance, they must indicate that on the check (or on a note if paying with cash). This is considered payment and is not tax deductible. If the donor desires a to give a tax-deductible gift, the gift must be generally toward the Dominican Republic Mission Trip – not toward a specific person.

    2. Pay online through our payment portal by going to immanuel-nky.org/give and selecting “Payment” at the top of the page OR through our giving portal by going to immanuel-nky.org/give and selecting “Give” at the top of the page.

Those who wish to donate may also donate directly to you, which would require that you then submit the donations to the church.

  • What if I can’t make it to informational meetings?

We understand that some may not be able to make it to all training meetings, but it is important to attend as many as possible as these meetings contain important information as well as important team building elements that will make our time in the Dominican Republic the best experience possible.

  • I’ve never fundraised before, how should I go about raising money?

We have found through experience that the best way to raise money is often to simply ask for it, that is why we highly recommend starting with a letter writing campaign. Other options include:

    • Social media storytelling (share why this trip matters and how it will impact you spiritually)
    • Setting aside Christmas and birthday money
    • Side jobs — shoveling driveways, hanging Christmas lights, mowing lawns - Use your gifts, talents, and creativity!
    • Fundraising Events – Performances, services, bake sales, yard sales, etc…

  • I don’t really like asking for money. What should I do?

This is a common anxiety, and we offer this advice. Don’t refuse someone the opportunity to support you in something they believe you are called to do! There are those who can’t go on trips like this, and the way they serve is by supporting others who can. Christ calls us to generosity, so consider giving others the opportunity to be generous.

  • What happens if I raise more money than I need for the trip?

There are a few options regarding this:

    • If the church receives donations directly that are designated for someone specific on our team who has already met his or her balance, the remaining donations will go toward other expenses for the trip, beginning with the balances of other team members.
    • If the church receives general donations, the donation will go toward other expenses for the trip, beginning with the balance of other team members (evenly distributed).
    • If you receive a donation directly and you know you have already met your goal, you can do any of the following, all of which warrant clear communication with the donor:
    1. Submit the donations to the church to be used for other expenses related to the mission trip.
    2. Return the donation to the donor.
    3. Reimburse yourself for any costs associated with the trip that you paid out of pocket.

Important Notes: We highly suggest that you are clear in your fundraising communication, regardless of what you intend to do with overage AND the church cannot reroute any money that is given directly to the church.

  • What risks are involved in this trip?

As for any trip that requires transportation, the usual risks apply. Specifically, there is an increased risk of sickness for travel outside of the country. We suggest scheduling an appointment with your primary care provider to discuss these risks.

  • What is the purpose of this trip?

We are fulfilling our church's mission to Make Disciples by sharing our faith and serving others. Our mission trip with GO Ministries is designed to support and learn from local leaders who are making disciples in the Dominican Republic. Through serving alongside them, we experience how God is redeeming people, renewing communities, and restoring creation. The purpose of the trip is not only to help meet real needs, but also to grow as disciples ourselves—learning mentorship, mission, and multiplication so we return home equipped to live as local leaders for Christ in our own communities.

  • I’m nervous about sending me teenager on this trip, are you sure they will be safe?

One of the greatest parts of our trip is that it is multi-generational, which means there will be trustworthy adults on this trip who will take care of our youth. If you are nervous, we invite you to join us. Participating on trips like this with your youth is an incredible blessing and will bring you closer together! The team at Go Ministries also works hard to provide the safest environment possible. The church that we stay at has a gate attendant on duty at all times, and we never go anywhere without a representative from the organization with us.

  • Will I need to get vaccinations for this trip?

Very likely yes. We suggest scheduling an appointment with your primary care provider to discuss this.

  • What will we eat on the trip?

All of our meals are prepared by local cooks in the kitchen of the church we will be staying in, and most diets and allergies can be accommodated. Team members can expect a variety of traditional Dominican food, including chicken, beans, rice, and fresh fruit.

  • I’ve already been on this trip, can I go again?

Absolutely! We have plenty of missionaries who have gone many times, and they experience something new every time and are blessed by connecting with those who they served in prior years! Those who have been before are often a great blessing to our newer missionaries! We especially recommend you go multiple times if you are feeling called to mission work on a larger scale.

  • Do I need to know Spanish to participate?

No, but it does help to have an understanding of some basic vocabulary. We suggest using mobile apps such as Duolingo (free), Babbel (paid), or Mango (free through most libraries) to learn the basics of the language.

1. Why is Immanuel Church making these changes? Our goal is to help ensure that Immanuel Church continues to be a warm, welcoming, and safe place for everyone. Expanding our Hospitality Team and creating a Security/Emergency Team allows us to respond quickly to medical, weather-related, or security situations if they arise. 2. Who are the people with the radios in the hallways? These individuals are members of our Sunday morning Security/Emergency Team. Their role is simply to help coordinate responses to any medical, weather, or safety concerns and to provide peace of mind for our congregation. 3. Is there a specific safety concern at the church? No. These steps are being taken proactively to ensure we are prepared to care for our congregation in any situation. Many churches are adopting similar practices to help maintain a safe environment. 4. Why are some entrances being locked on Sunday mornings? At the recommendation of the Lakeside Park Police Department, we are limiting the number of entrances open during worship hours. This helps us maintain awareness of who is entering the building while still providing welcoming access points for everyone. 5. Which entrances will be closed? Beginning Sunday, March 15, the doors on Arcadia Street and at Wesley Hall will be locked during Sunday morning worship hours. 6. Which entrances should I use on Sunday mornings? We encourage most people to enter through the Welcome Center, where our Hospitality Team will be ready to greet you. The Sanctuary Narthex entrance (near Dixie Highway at the rear of the Sanctuary) will also remain open and staffed by a greeter or usher. 7. What if I normally use the Wesley Hall entrance? We understand that this entrance has been convenient, especially for quick drop-offs and those with limited mobility. A member of the Safety Team will be stationed there to assist anyone who needs access. 8. Can I still drop someone off on Arcadia Street? For everyone’s safety, we kindly ask that vehicles not stop on Arcadia Street to drop off passengers. 9. Can I still exit through the locked doors? Yes. The doors have push bars and are still available for exiting the building. They will lock behind you as you exit the building. 10. Are you looking for volunteers for the Security Team? Yes. We are currently inviting additional volunteers to serve on the Sunday morning Security Team. This ministry helps provide care, awareness, and support for the congregation. 11. How can I get involved or learn more? If you feel called to be part of this ministry, please contact Craig Cumberledge, Parker Barbour, or Alan Gill for more information. 12. Will these changes affect the welcoming atmosphere of the church? Not at all. Our goal is to strengthen both safety and hospitality so that every person who comes to Immanuel Church feels cared for, welcomed, and secure.
